Lena Dunham and Jenni Konner Vow to Keep Fighting for Women ‘Even If Those Women Don’t Share Our Values’

Pinterest Neilson Barnard/Getty Images Lena Dunham plans to keep advocating for all women, whether they like it or not. “We are still fighting for you as a group,” Dunham, 30, told PEOPLE at the Girls premiere on Thursday, in response to her TimesTalk quote about women she politically disagrees with. “I think it’s really important that even though we live in a culture where obviously so many of us are so disappointed that 53% of white women voted for Donald Trump, I think you have to keep voting for the rights of people, no whether you agree or disagree with them,” the actress continued. Concluding, “To me, a huge part of feminism is that even if those women don’t share our values, we’re still for them and we’re still fighting for a country where they’re safe.” Girls‘ showrunner and close friend Jenni Konner added, “I can’t beat that, that’s perfect.” Towards the end of her TimesTalk discussion on Wednesday, Dunham made a point to reach across the philosophical aisle to women who voted for Trump. “The thing that I want to say is that even women who don’t like this show, even women who voted for Trump, even women who don’t identify with needing the services of Planned Parenthood, we are still fighting for you as a group,” she said. Is the possibility of not being able to commit murder when your irresponsible behavior puts you in a position that you need an abortion somehow going to make this country unsafe? President Trump is trying to make this country safe. He’s not going to take away your rights to be an immoral whore. If the women that marched are so concerned about women’s rights then why don’t they start a movement to help the women in other countries that are treated like dirt. In particular the seven countries on the ban list. The woman in America don’t need Lena to stand up for them. They were doing just fine long before she was born. We certainly don’t need her teaching young girls the filth she puts on tv. There are more pressing issue this country has then if plan parenthood gets funding for abortions. This country needs secure borders, jobs, food and shelter for it’s citizens. Kathie Johnson
