Jennifer Lawrence Gets Real About Her Friendship With Amy Schumer In Vanity Fair

Jennifer Lawrence on the latest cover of Vanity Fair, photographed by Peter Lindbergh. Despite already winning an Oscar, appearing in 20 movies by 26 and now earning $20 million per picture, Jennifer Lawrence shows no signs of stopping or slowing down for a second. “I don’t like waking up with nothing to do or going to sleep without accomplishing anything,” the actress said in a revealing new interview with Vanity Fair. “That really depresses me.” As the December cover star for the magazine, Lawrence opens up about what she would be doing if not for acting and the portrait she has of her dog (we’re with you, Jen). She also spoke about where her friendship with Amy Schumer stands and why she’s occasionally mean to fans (and Chris Pratt, but only in the mornings!). If Lawrence didn’t make it big in Hollywood, she may have been doing something totally different. In a short video for the magazine, the “Passengers” star joked that she didn’t have a contingency plan if she didn’t make it in Hollywood, confessing instead she would probably be “laying in a ditch” or “stripping.” She has painting of her dog that her mom commissioned from a 14-year-old fan in New Zealand. “Fuck it. I am the person who has an acrylic painting of her dog,” Lawrence told VF. “I am a psychotic dog mom in a way that I am genuinely embarrassed about. If I could put her inside me and give birth to her I would.” She only worries about having kids because they “would be incredibly jealous because I would still be way more attentive to Pippi than I would to them.” Yes, she’s still friends with Amy Schumer, despite the rumors. Lawrence ― who said she only lies when asked about “liking someone’s work”― got honest about her friendship with Schumer. Yes, she’s still shooting the movie she wrote with Schumer and yes, the two are still friends. “My brother asked me the other day, ‘Everybody online thinks you and Amy [Schumer] aren’t friends anymore,’” the actress said. “And I said, ‘Oh, really, because everything online is always true.’” Handout via Getty Images JLaw has no tolerance for fans that invade her privacy. “You might think you know me, but when you approach me you’re a total stranger to me and I’m scared.” Lawrence said, adding that she gets “very protective of my space. It took me a long time to be able to do that.” And word to the wise ― if you happen to be at a restaurant sitting next to the actress, don’t take a photo without asking unless you’re ready to be called out (and rightfully so!) “If I’m eating dinner and somebody comes up and a flash goes off from someone’s iPhone camera, I am really rude to that person. Then other people at the restaurant will see and be like, ‘Oh, damn, I don’t want to do that.’ Privacy is a full-time job and I work very hard […]

Steven Van Zandt Says ‘Hamilton’ Actors Bullied Mike Pence

Steven Van Zandt, pictured with wife Maureen Van Zandt in September, said the cast members of “Hamilton” “took unfair advantage” of Vice President-elect Mike Pence. This Bruce Springsteen sidekick was born to run ― right into a political argument. Former “Sopranos” star Steven Van Zandt, also of Springsteen’s E Street Band, says the cast of “Hamilton” unfairly ganged up on Vice President-elect Mike Pence on Friday. In a demonstration gone viral, cast member Brandon Victor Dixon, who plays Aaron Burr, directly addressed Pence after the Broadway show. While welcoming him to the play, Dixon told the veep-to-be he was concerned how the new administration would treat the country’s diverse population and hoped the play inspired him to work on behalf of all Americans. But Van Zandt wasn’t having it. “It was the most respectful, benign form of bullying ever. But bullying nonetheless,” Van Zandt said on Twitter Saturday. “And by the way, human rights must be won, not asked for. When artists perform the venue becomes your home. The audience are your guests. It’s taking unfair advantage of someone who thought they were a protected guest in your home.” Many praised the cast for openly addressing a politician who has attempted to institute anti-LGBTQ policies and has supported “conversion therapy” in his career. Van Zandt wrote that he disagrees with what Pence represents, but “I don’t tolerate bullying in any form.” It was the most respectful, benign form of bullying ever. But bullying nonetheless. And by the way, human rights must be won, not asked for. https://t.co/JfN4yjq8jM — Stevie Van Zandt (@StevieVanZandt) November 19, 2016 Van Zandt, who has said in the past that he’s Independent and has spoken out in support of LGBTQ rights, added, “A guy comes to a Broadway show for a relaxing night out. Instead he gets a lecture from the stage! Not a level playing field. It’s bullying. You don’t single out an audience member and embarrass him from the stage. A terrible precedent to set.” President-elect Donald Trump called the speech “rude” and demanded an apology. “Hamilton” creator Lin-Manuel Miranda tweeted support for Dixon and reminded fans that all are welcome at the theater after the incident. Proud of @HamiltonMusical. Proud of @BrandonVDixon, for leading with love. And proud to remind you that ALL are welcome at the theater. — Lin-Manuel Miranda (@Lin_Manuel) November 19, 2016

Wildlife Rangers Are Using Military-Grade Technology To Catch Poachers, And It’s Working

African elephants on in the Mara Conservancy in the Maasai Mara National Reserve in Kenya. Catching poachers is a risky business. They’re often heavily armed, engage in what’s been likened to guerrilla warfare and operate under the cover of night, shooting, poisoning and snaring the world’s most vulnerable wildlife into near extinction. But a new project led by the World Wildlife Fund hopes to change all that, hunting the hunters with military-grade technology that can literally see in the dark. For the past nine months, the conservation group has worked with wildlife rangers in Kenya’s Maasai Mara game reserve on trials of a new thermal imaging camera mounted to the back of a truck. With the new technology ― which reads body heat ― rangers can see poachers though pitch black, a mile in any direction, tell what kind of weapons they’re carrying and, most importantly, catch them before they kill anything. “People are saying, ‘How can you find me, how can you see me at night?’” said Colby Loucks, head of the WWF’s Wildlife Crime Technology Project. “Before we used these cameras, rangers were just guessing where poachers would be. They’d hide in the grass with their flashlights and frankly poachers would often outrun them. Now you can see them a mile away, radio the rangers and say, ‘Just go this way.’” A ranger tests the FLIR thermal imaging camera in the Maasai Mara game reserve. The project has already saved animals’ lives. More than two dozen poachers have been caught using the technology, part of a collaboration with a thermal imaging company called FLIR and paid for in part with a grant from Google. “The last three people our team arrested were flabbergasted as to how they were detected,” Brian Heath, director of the Mara Conservancy, said in a statement. “Normally they simply sneak away when an ambush is sprung and avoid detection. Now, their heat signatures are picked up by the thermal camera. We’re catching them.” The use of thermal imaging is just the latest development in high-tech trials to combat a rampant poaching problem that sees some 30,000 elephants and 1,200 rhinos killed every year. Conservationists have turned to drones, dyes and dogs to try to stem the slaughter. More than two dozen poachers have already been captured using the technology. Earlier this year, Kenya lit a $100 million bonfire with the ivory from some 10,000 elephants in the largest public burn of animal parts in history. Officials said the move was a strong statement to poachers ― and the markets that still purchase ivory ― that these unsustainable rates of killing wouldn’t stand. The country also drastically increased punishments for poachers, with some crimes warranting life imprisonment. All of these moves are meant as disincentives to poachers hopeful for an easy payday. Loucks said the group has already started tests to use the thermal imaging cameras on drones, and the WWF hopes to expand the program to other regions in Africa and Asia. “We need […]

Gwen Ifill’s Funeral Was A Revival Meeting For America

WASHINGTON – The Ifill family’s journey from Barbados to the pinnacle of American society was an arduous and inspirational one. It was not the kind of story you heard from the campaign of Donald Trump, because it is one that undercuts and invalidates the worst aspects of the message of fear of “others” that Trump peddled. The Ifills left three generations ago, with an education in faith and a faith in education, but no money or prospects. They made their way to jobs in the U.S. Canal Zone in Panama, though because of their race and status they had to live outside the zone in Panama proper. “It was like the old segregated South,” Sherrilyn Ifill, one of the descendants of those pioneers, told me Saturday. “It may as well have been Alabama.” With the men working on the canal and the women working as domestics, they made the money and got the papers to come to America. Two young brothers of those founders became ministers in the African Methodist Episcopal Church, traveling from post to post in New York and elsewhere in their new country. One of the brother’s daughters, Sherrilyn, attended Vassar College and NYU Law School and is now the president of the prestigious NAACP Legal Defense and Education Fund ― the organization Thurgood Marshall ran when he won the Brown v. Board of Education lawsuit. One of the other brother’s daughters was Gwen Ifill, the trailblazing and widely respected print and television journalist who died last Monday of endometrial cancer at the age of 61 in Washington. Attendees arrive at Metropolitan A.M.E. Church for the memorial service for journalist Gwen Ifill in Washington on Saturday. A celebration of her life at the historic Metropolitan AME Church in downtown Washington on Saturday was a moving personal and religious ceremony, full of lilting gospel music, strong preaching and a stately rendition of Ifill’s favorite, the “Hallelujah Chorus.” Tears flowed, shouts rang out, and family and friends embraced as if their lives depended on it. It was an intensely personal three hours for the thousand or so of all hues and heritages gathered in a church famous for past congregants such as Frederick Douglass and beloved for its good works. But intentionally or not, the event was something more: It was a revival meeting for America, a celebration of that which is so positive, so nourishing and so indispensable about the country’s growing diversity that it renews our faith in our common destiny. Speaking from the pulpit about her family and her cousin, Sherrilyn explained her family’s patriotic faith ― that, “with all its flaws, they believe in America,” including the opportunities for education it provided. Neither they nor Gwen, in her long career at great newspapers and TV networks, ever “gave up on the project of America.” The fathers and mothers taught the children to always respect the opinions of others, and to realize that “there is no weakness in listening.” Gwen Ifill was an excellent interviewer because […]

Meet The Texas Lawmaker Fighting For Queer Youth (And Everyone Else)

It’s a watershed year fraught with turmoil for the lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) community. Across the American South, queer, trans and gender-nonconforming people are facing wave after wave of legislation that threatens our safety, well-being and very existence. From “bathroom bills“ to ordinances that permit discrimination, this battle is in many ways a backlash to all of the victories our community has seen recently —including last year’s nation-wide legalization of same-sex marriage — and it serves a multitude of political and social purposes for the religious and political right. In this new series, HuffPost Queer Voices Deputy Editor JamesMichael Nichols, who hails from North Carolina himself, talks to some of the leaders, movers and shakers of the fight for queer and trans liberation in the South about their own personal experiences as activists, the current political and social climate for the LGBT community in these states and the action that we, as a community, can take to help. Check out the previous interviews Pamela Raintree, Councilwoman LaWana Mayfield, Joce Pritchett and Alvin McEwen. Courtesy of Rep Israel Celia Israel is a member of the Texas House of Representatives ― and a champion for the rights of the LGBTQ community in this influential part of the American South. With political roots in the administration of the legendary Gov. Ann Richards, Rep. Israel has been fighting for queer Texans ― and all disenfranchised individuals ― for decades. With Texas now facing the prospect of a North Carolina-esque backlash when it comes to the rights of transgender Americans, Rep. Israel remains a crucial voice for our community’s most vulnerable heading into the 2017 session of the Texas State House of Representatives ― and a Trump administration. In this interview with The Huffington Post, Rep. Israel reflects on her journey as an openly lesbian politician in Texas, the realities of life for LGBTQ Texans and how we, as a community, should face the unprecedented challenge of a Donald Trump/Mike Pence administration. The Huffington Post: For those unfamiliar with the work you’ve done in the Texas state legislature, tell us a bit about who you are. Rep. Israel: Well, I’ve been living in Austin for over 30 years but I’m from El Paso, Texas. I call myself an Ann Richards Democrat in that I feel like I can keep my sense of humor while I’m working on a whole array of issues. Since we’re in the minority party in Texas, it means if I’m going to do anything good for my constituents, I’ve got to build good relationships across the aisle to get things done. So I’m a pragmatic Ann Richards Democrat. How did you initially get started in politics? I worked for Governor Richards on her campaign in 1990 and we won the election in 1990, so I was in the Richards administration from ‘90 until ‘94. So it was a matter of volunteering that turned into a job that turned into a life-changing opportunity. What are some of the biggest challenges […]

‘Google, What Is ISIS?’: Alec Baldwin Returns to SNL as Trump to Imagine His First Weeks as PEOTUS

After last week’s somewhat sober tribute to the election, Saturday Night Live was back at it again this weekend, taking a look at what might be going through President-elect Donald Trump‘s head in the weeks following his surprising victory. After taking last weekend off, Alec Baldwin returned to play Trump in the show’s cold open, showing the former reality star’s nervousness about suddenly being put in charge of the free world. After a member of the Joint Chiefs of Staff drops by Trump’s office to tell him how the military is very excited to hear about Trump’s “secret plan” to destroy ISIS, Baldwin’s Trump suddenly gets tongue-tied. “That’s right, a plan … very secret,” he said before scurrying over to a computer to Google “What is ISIS?” After realizing that ISIS is bigger and more compacted than he thought (and with no help from Siri) Trump tries to calm himself down. RELATED VIDEO: Mike Pence Booed at ‘Hamilton’ “Big beautiful boobs and buildings big beautiful boobs and buildings,” he said, stopping himself from hyperventilating. Baldwin wasn’t the only special return guest as SNL alum Jason Sudeikis dropped by during the skit to take up his former character of Mitt Romney. (Trump met with Romney on Saturday in a highly anticipated meeting.) After the pair shook hands and stared silently at each other for a full minute, they realized that things weren’t going to work out between them. And of course, SNL had to give a nod to the current Mike Pence–Hamilton scandal when Pence, played by Beck Bennett, dropped by Trump’s office. “Heard you went to see Hamilton, how was that,” Trump said. “It was great, I got a lecture,” Pence replied. “I love you Mike, you’re the reason I’m never going to get impeached,” Trump said. Saturday Night Live airs Saturdays (11:30 p.m. ET) on NBC.

Celebrities and Politicians React to Trump’s Claim that Pence Was ‘Harassed’ at Hamilton Performance

Celebrities and politicians are speaking out about Donald Trump‘s controversial claim that Vice President-elect Mike Pence was “harassed” while attending the Friday evening showing of Hamilton. The 70-year-old President-elect had tweeted that Pence “was harassed last night at the theater by the cast of Hamilton, cameras blazing” — before calling for an apology from the cast. “The Theater must always be a safe and special place,” he wrote. “The cast of Hamilton was very rude last night to a very good man, Mike Pence. Apologize!” Pence, 57 — who has been a crusader for anti-LGBTQ legislation throughout his career — paid a visit to the hottest musical on Broadway and received heavy boos from the audience upon his arrival. Broadway has been a save-haven for the LGBTQ community for years — accepting, employing and championing many of its members. Hamilton itself stars a diverse cast lead by Javier Muñoz in the title role — an openly gay, HIV-positive actor. During a post-curtain call speech at New York’s Richard Rodgers Theatre, the Broadway cast addressed him directly and asked the audience not to boo, saying “we’re all sharing a story of love.” “We welcome you, and we truly thank you for joining us here at Hamilton: An American Musical — we really do,” Brandon Victor Dixon — who plays former vice president Aaron Burr in the show — said. “We are the diverse America who are alarmed and anxious that your new administration will not protect us, our planet, our children, our parents, or defend us and uphold our inalienable rights, sir. But we truly hope this show has inspired you to uphold our American values, and work on behalf of all of us.” Video of the speech quickly went viral online — with many weighing in throughout the evening and into early morning as to whether Trump’s harassment claims were justified. Alec Baldwin — who plays Trump on Saturday Night Live — noted that “all dissent is harassment to [Trump]” — before saying “2020 is coming.” Rosie O’Donnell — a longtime Trump foe — laughed off his call for apology. “That’s rich — coming from you,” she said. “A lecture? A request for a peaceful 4 years? I’m so sorry they had to endure that,” tweeted Chrissy Teigen. “You cannot pretend real life s— isn’t happening.” “Look who wants a f—— safe space now,” she continued. “The very thing him and his supporters make fun of as liberal political correctness. God, what a POS” She added: “Donald knows very well what he is doing. He knows the Hamilton speech was NBD. He knows his tweet will fire both sides up to distract from the 25 million dollar settlement of yesterday. Most conniving human on planet earth.” Gay rights advocate George Takei said that Trump should actually be the one to apologize. “AMERICA must always be a safe and special place,” he wrote. “The Trump administration has been very cruel to many good people. Apologize!” “If Trump gets upset at a […]

How the Gilmore Girls Team Remembered Their Late Costar Edward Herrmann, On-Screen and Off

Pinterest When the residents of Stars Hollow reconvened for Netflix’s highly-anticipated revival series Gilmore Girls: A Year In the Life, one key member of the Gilmore family was missing: Edward Herrmann. The actor, who played the distinguished family patriarch Richard Gilmore for seven seasons on the original Gilmore Girls series, passed away in 2014 at age 71 after a battle with brain cancer. In the revival, which debuts Nov. 26, the cast and crew made certain he was there in spirit. His character Richard has also died on the show — but his memory provides key story points as his family processes his loss. While filming, Herrmann’s set family was able to work through their own feelings about his passing as the material paid loving tribute to their cosstar. “It was really a big day to walk on the Gilmore stage without Ed, but there were tears of joy all over the place as well,” Lauren Graham told PEOPLE at the premiere of the new series at Los Angeles’ Fox Bruin Theater on Friday. “I really was deeply fond of Ed,” actress Kelly Bishop explained. She shared a plethora of screen time with Herrmann, playing his on-screen wife Emily Gilmore. “We were set buddies — we hung out together,” she said. “We did crossword puzzles together, occasionally had a drink after the show, and stayed in touch, mainly via email. So I knew it was going to be sad, but when I read the script, I thought he was so much a part of the show.” She added: “I told his wife that it was going to be bittersweet. She was going to be sad, but very proud because he’s as much a part of the show as if he were still with us. … I think it was wonderfully handled, frankly.” Series creator Amy Sherman-Palladino recalled how shocked the Gilmore Girls team was to learn of Herrmann’s passing, shortly before the long-speculated series revival became a reality. “When he died it really felt like, it was weird because he died not too long before we had our [cast] reunion in Austin [at the 2015 ATX Television Festival],” Sherman-Palladino revealed. “So we were all very raw, and it was a big surprise, and we didn’t really know he was sick because he was very proud – he was a proud dude. He was dad.” “It rocked our world so much,” she continued. “And it’s obviously going to rock Lorelai, Rory and especially Emily’s world so much that that seemed like a good place to chime in. And in chiming in, and seeing how that would affect them, it felt like it was a good way to honor him.” Bishop said that because Lorelai and Emily’s journeys are about the loss of Richard, the show felt special. “I lost a husband — she lost a parent — there was so much more heft to the scenes, and there was a lot of emotion at times,” she said. “I mean, it wasn’t […]

Kim Kardashian West Thinks Baby Dream ‘Is the Cutest,’ Says Source

Pinterest AKM-GSI Kim Kardashian West may be taking a break from the spotlight, but that didn’t stop her from going to meet her new niece Dream Renée Kardashian. Wife of One of the Victims of Suspected Serial Killer Says She Can Finally Heal

After Kala Brown was rescued from inside a storage container, police uncovered at least three more bodies nearby — and her alleged captor’s chilling secrets. Subscribe now to PEOPLE, or pick up this week’s issue for much more on this case. The wife of Scott Ponder, who authorities say is a victim of suspected South Carolina serial killer Todd Kohlhepp, tells PEOPLE that she had “made peace” with not knowing who killed her husband in 2003. All that changed, however, when Melissa Brackman received a phone call on Nov. 5 from a South Carolina detective who had worked on her husband’s murder 13 years earlier. “[He] just said, ‘We got him,’ and I froze,” Brackman tells PEOPLE in this week’s issue. She is still in disbelief: “I [didn’t] know how to feel.” Brackman says she had forged a new life for her and her son, Scott Jr., with whom she was seven weeks pregnant when Ponder was killed in a mass shooting at the motorcycle shop he owned in Chensee, South Carolina. A year after Ponder’s death, she and Scott Jr. moved to Arizona to be closer to her family. She remarried and had another son — so the break in the case came as a surprise. “I had just given up,” she says. Brackman learned that her husband’s killer was 45-year-old Todd Kohlhepp, who she had seen on the local news days earlier after he was arrested and accused of keeping 30-year-old Kala Brown bound and chained in a freight container on his property in Woodruff, South Carolina. She says she never imagined the man on TV was the same man who killed her husband; his mother, Beverly Guy; and his two employees, Paul Lucas and Chris Sherbert, at his Chesnee dealership on Nov. 6, 2003. But according to law enforcement, during questioning in Brown’s kidnapping, Kohlhepp confessed to the quadruple homicide, which had long since gone cold. He was a “disgruntled customer” who couldn’t take a joke about a previously stolen bike, detectives told Brackman. • Want to keep up with the latest crime coverage? Kohlhepp has been charged with four counts of murder in the mass shooting of Ponder and the others. He has not entered a plea or retained an attorney, and he has said he plans to represent himself in court. But since his arrest, authorities say more bodies have been discovered on the realtor’s 96-acre property, including a local couple who were reported missing 11 months ago; and Brown’s boyfriend, Charlie Carver, who was allegedly shot in the head by Kohlhepp. Authorities say he will likely face more charges, including murder. And Brackman says that with the answers she’s been searching for, she is finally able to heal. “I am praying for the mother who lost her son and for this girl who went through hell, for her family and her boyfriend who […]

How Do Kim Kardashian and Kanye West’s Political Views Match Up?

Is the West home a house divided? That’s certainly what it seems after Kanye West announced at a San Jose concert that though he didn’t vote, if he had, he would have cast his ballot for Donald Trump. This statement doesn’t seem to align with his wife’s political views: She’s been open about her support for Hillary Clinton — though she briefly seemed to flirt with the idea of voting for Trump a few months prior to the election, after speaking with self-declared Republican Caitlyn Jenner. In September, Kardashian set the record straight and formally endorsed Clinton. In particular, she mentioned Clinton’s views on gun control and reproductive rights as a deciding factor. “I found that without a doubt, I stand with Hillary,” she said. “I’m with her. I believe Hillary will best represent our country and is the most qualified for the job. This year, I’m not just voting for myself, but also for my children, and I took that into careful consideration when I made my decision.” Though the endorsement didn’t come until September, many considered it a done deal when Kardashian posted an Instagram with Clinton (and West!) back in August 2015 with the caption “I got my selfie!!! I really loved hearing her speak & hearing her goals for our country! #HillaryForPresident” However, while West said that he supported Trump, he also said that he still supported Black Lives Matter, as well as LGBTQ and women’s rights. “That don’t mean that I don’t think black lives matter,” he said during his show. “That I don’t believe in women’s rights. That don’t mean that I don’t believe in gay marriage.” He also made a controversial statement about racism in the United States. “To black people, stop focusing on racism,” he said. “We live in a racist country, period.” This statement seems to be in contrast with one Kardashian made a few months ago, in support of Black Lives Matter, in which she wrote of concerns for the country and her children: “It is our responsibility as Americans and as parents to create a safe future for our children. We must do something NOW. We must speak up until we are heard and real, effective changes are made.” Kardashian’s political beliefs have evolved over the years: Back in 2012, she called herself a “liberal Republican,” saying she was a fiscal conservative and a social liberal. But this summer, in an interview with GQ, she said she now identified as a Democrat. “As I’ve grown up, I decided what I think is best for me instead of what my parents would have voted for,” she told the magazine. One political measure that would certainly bring the two together? A West ticket for the White House in 2020.

RHOA Star Cynthia Bailey on Her Divorce Struggles: ‘I’m Still Finding My Way’

Cynthia Bailey may have made the tough decision to begin divorce proceedings with husband Peter Thomas, but the reality star and model isn’t going through it alone. On Friday, the 48-year-old beauty stopped by PEOPLE Now to discuss her divorce and the ninth season of Real Housewives of Atlanta and she revealed that her fellow RHOA stars have been a source of emotional support during her split. “I have to say, they’ve been pretty compassionate,” she explained. “Quite a few of the ladies have actually been through divorce proceedings themselves, so they’ve been through it. So they kind of sympathize with what I’m going through.” Bailey said she’s grateful to be around such supportive women — even if they “don’t get along all the time — and that she feels comfortable reaching out to any of her fellow Housewives if she’s having a bad day. “We’re connected and we’re kind of bonded to each other,” she said. “That really [means] a lot to me.” As for how she’s doing now, Bailey said she’s “still just finding her way.” “I’ve only been married once,” she explained. “This is my first divorce, so I didn’t have anything to compare this experience to. Just like you don’t know how to be married until I got married, and didn’t know how to be a mom until I got pregnant and became a mom.” “I don’t pretend to have all the answers. I’m just trying to stay true to just what is giving me piece,” she continued. RELATED VIDEO: Will Kim Zolciak Be Returning To The Real Housewives of Atlanta?! Elsewhere in the chat, Bailey confirmed rumors that Kim Zolciak-Biermann would be returning to RHOA, saying the original Atlanta Housewife makes an appearance at Shereé Whitfield‘s housewarming. “I don’t know what is going to happen in the future,” Bailey said, when speculating whether Zolciak-Biermann’s return would be full time. “All the original cast from the Housewives, I always take my hat out to them because they started the whole thing,” she added. “Without them, we wouldn’t be here. So hey — if it’s gonna make the show better and you want to jump on the team and help keep this show no. 1, then by all means, come.” The Real Housewives of Atlanta airs Sundays (8 p.m. ET) on Bravo.

Highly Statistically Significant Results (P<0.001) Demonstrated on Primary Composite Endpoint and All Secondary Endpoints DUBLIN, Nov. 17, 2016 /PRNewswire/ — Endo International plc (NASDAQ / TSX: ENDP) announced today positive results from its Phase 2b study of collagenase clostridium histolyticum (or "CCH") for the treatment of edematous fibrosclerotic panniculopathy ("EFP"), commonly known as cellulite. CCH is known in its currently approved indications in the U.S. as XIAFLEX® for adult Dupuytren’s contracture and Peyronie’s disease. Trial subjects receiving CCH showed statistically significant levels of improvement in the appearance of cellulite with treatment, as measured by the trial’s primary endpoint (p<0.001), compared to those subjects receiving placebo. CCH was well-tolerated in the actively treated subjects with most adverse events (AEs) being mild to moderate in severity, and primarily limited to the local injection area. "We continue to be encouraged and very excited by the promising results of our CCH program, especially in the cellulite indication a condition which affects many millions of people," said Dr. Susan Hall, Executive Vice President, Chief Scientific Officer and Global Head of R&D at Endo. "We believe these data further reinforce our belief that CCH could be a potential treatment option for those with cellulite and we look forward to working with FDA to efficiently and effectively advance our development of the program into Phase 3." The Phase 2b trial enrolled 375 women with moderate or severe cellulite aged 18 years or older in the United States. Each subject received up to three treatment sessions of CCH (0.84 mg / session) or placebo with each treatment session occurring approximately 21 days apart. Twelve injections were administered into cellulite dimples during each session across an entire treatment quadrant left or right buttock or left or right posteriolateral thigh. At both the outset and conclusion of the study period (28 days after the last treatment), cellulite severity was assessed by each patient and clinician using two photonumeric cellulite severity scales developed by Endo and third-party experts. The scales the Photonumeric Cellulite Severity Scale (PCSS) are 5-point scales ranging from 0 (no cellulite) to 4 (severe cellulite) that measure improvement in the appearance of cellulite. The Phase 2b trial’s primary endpoint was the proportion of composite responders at Day 71 defined as subjects with a 2-point improvement in severity from baseline in the clinician-reported (CR) PCSS and a 2-point improvement in the patient-reported (PR) PCSS. Additional endpoints include a composite of 1-point responders, the percentage of responders with 1-point and 2-point improvements on the CR-PCSS and PR-PCSS, assessment of improvement by patient and clinician using the Global Aesthetic Improvement Scale (GAIS); subject satisfaction, and change in the Hexsel cellulite severity scale. "I believe these positive results demonstrate that CCH has the potential to be a treatment option for cellulite, a condition for which there are very limited safe and proven effective treatments," said Mitchel P. Goldman, MD, Medical Director, Cosmetic Laser Dermatology. "With so many millions of women affected by cellulite, there is a substantial need for new and innovative […]

Designer Sophie Theallet Vows Never To Work With Melania Trump

Douliery Olivier/ABACA USA/ABACA USA In her eight years in the White House, Michelle Obama became a sweetheart of the fashion world, beloved by designers thrilled to dress her. For at least one of those industry stars, those days are gone. French designer Sophie Theallet vowed never to dress incoming first lady Melania Trump in an open letter posted to her Twitter account Thursday night. Theallet, who is based in New York City and has designed collections for Lane Bryant, explained in the letter that her brand “stands against all discrimination and prejudice” and calls her runway shows, campaigns and celebrity dressings “a celebration of diversity and reflection of the world we live in.” In that spirit, she decided not to dress Trump. “As one who celebrates and strives for diversity, individual freedom, and respect for all lifestyles, I will not participate in dressing or associating in any way with the next first lady. The rhetoric of racism, sexism and xenophobia unleashed by her husband’s presidential campaign are incompatible with the shared values we live by,” wrote Theallet. Theallet called her work with Obama, someone whose “values, actions and grace” resonate with her, “a highlight and an honor.” Michelle Obama wearing Sophie Theallet, 2011. Obama wore and repeated Theallet’s designs over the years. One of the designs was even nearly cloned for a collection Theallet did with the Gap back in 2011. It’s a bold move to weigh in on politics, one that Theallet said herself might not be wise. But she also called on her fellow designers to follow suit, reminding them that “integrity is our only true currency.” Meanwhile, it’s unclear whether or not the future first lady even intends to be dressed by designers when her husband’s presidency begins in January. After all, she wore her own purchased clothing on the campaign trail. Business of Fashion recently declared “Fashion Will Learn To Love Melania Trump,” but InStyle editor-in-chief Laura Brown told the outlet her staff “have no plans” to cover Mrs. Trump. Whatever happens in the future, this is certainly a big about-face from the last eight years.

Donald Trump’s Top Advisor Has A Potential $2.7 Billion Obamacare Conflict Of Interest

Republican President-elect Donald Trump and his daughter Ivanka Trump embrace on Nov. 9, as he stands next to wife, Melania Trump, while Jared Kushner and Tiffany Trump look on. There’s nothing odd about the founders of a health insurance company writing policy proposals after an election where the winner campaigned relentlessly on ending Obamacare. And Wednesday morning, Mario Schlosser and Josh Kushner, the founders of Oscar, a healthcare startup that sells insurance on the state exchanges Obamacare created, did just that. They say they want more competition in the insurance industry, and they think allowing individuals to buy healthcare plans with pre-tax dollars would make that happen. Oscar’s founders also expressed openness to ideas Republicans have floated in the past. What’s interesting in this case is that Kushner is the brother of Jared Kushner, who is married to Ivanka Trump, the eldest daughter of President-elect Donald Trump. Jared Kushner is also serving on the executive committee of the presidential transition, and could potentially take a senior job in the White House. Venture capitalist and Facebook board member Peter Thiel, who also sits on the executive committee of the presidential transition, is also an investor in Oscar. A spokeswoman for Josh Kushner and Oscar declined to comment beyond his blog post. Spokespeople for Thiel and the Trump transition did not return requests for comment. Anti-nepotism laws bar Kushner from taking a paid job in the White House, though he is exploring getting around that rule by taking an unpaid role advising his father-in-law, The New York Times reports. On the campaign trail, Trump railed against Obamacare and promised to replace it with something better ― though he never said what his alternative was exactly. He told The Wall Street Journal last week that he may try the virtually impossible task of keeping popular parts of the law, like allowing children to stay on their parents’ plans into their 20s and barring insurance companies from denying coverage due to pre-existing conditions, while still reducing costs. But in all likelihood, any changes a Trump administration and a Republican-controlled Congress make would be far more favorable to insurance companies. That would create the potential for a conflict of interest ― or in the very least, the appearance of one ― if Oscar were a run-of-the-mill health insurance company. But the potential is amplified due to the fact that Oscar was started for the express purpose of making money on the state exchanges for individual insurance. Oscar sells insurance through its website and app directly to individuals who aren’t covered by employer insurance or a government program. Individuals who aren’t covered are required to buy insurance or pay a penalty under what is called the individual mandate. The federal government partially subsidizes the plans that Oscar sells. Precisely how big that subsidy depends on the type of plan and how much money the person buying it makes. Federal conflict of interest rules say executive branch employees can’t make decisions that affect their family’s finances. That […]

Hundreds Of Dead Puffins Are Mysteriously Washing Ashore In Alaska

Two horned puffins perch on Alaska’s St. Paul island. Hundreds of puffins have washed up dead on the island’s rocky shores. The puffins were not supposed to be there. Though the birds are a common sight on the Alaskan island of St. Paul, they typically fly the coop before October, heading south to overwinter. But a few bedraggled birds had been discovered on the wind-swept, rocky shoreline of the North Pacific island during the first week of October. “It was odd because we don’t usually see them here this time of year,” said Aaron Lestenkof, who monitors the local environment as one of St. Paul’s island sentinels. Stranger still, the puffins didn’t startle and move away when people approached them. Some fell over onto their bellies, too weak to waddle. Local conservationists began investigating the cause of the orange-beaked birds’ incapacity. Then their probe took a grim turn. “By mid-October the dead ones started showing up,” Lestenkof told The Huffington Post over email last week. “The first week collecting birds, I went out every day and was picking up a carcass every 15 feet in some areas.” Lestenkof had collected dozens of dead puffins within days, the lifelong resident of the island said. “In past years, we would find about two or three dead puffins in a season, which was fairly common,” said Paul Melovidov, another sentinel who has spent weeks combing beaches for puffin carcasses and photographing the finds. “When you have 40 to 50 dead and fully intact puffins arrive on your shore within a week, it’s cause for alarm.” At least 250 dead puffins have since been found on St. Paul, according to reports. Some of the puffins found dead in St. Paul this October. Scientists fear thousands more may have died in the surrounding areas, ravaging local populations of the bird. And they worry that the mass deaths could signal an impending collapse of ecosystems in the vast Bering Sea, whose turquoise waters lap St. Paul’s shores. It’s home to whales, walrus, orca, fur seals and many species of seabird. It also supports some of America’s most productive fisheries, including a $1 billion-a-year pollock fishing industry. The sea, which touches Russia on one side and Alaska on the other, is said to provide more seafood than any other in North America. Experts are still trying to determine the cause of the puffin deaths and what it all could mean, but some are blaming climate change. It already appears to be transforming the Bering Sea, and devastating the ecosystems and communities that depend on it. “The Bering Sea has been off-the-charts warm,” Nate Mantua, an ecologist at the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration’s Southwest Fisheries Science Center, told National Geographic. “We’ve never seen anything like this. We’re in uncharted territory. We’re in the midst of an extraordinary time.” The maximum summer temperatures this year in the Bering Sea were the warmest ever recorded. Janet Duffy-Anderson of NOAA’s Alaska Fisheries Science Center told HuffPost that 2016 was the […]

Nurturing Women Leaders in Honduras

According to the World Food Program, Honduras is the third poorest country in Latin America and the Caribbean, with 1.5 million of its 8.5 million people facing food insecurity. Although women make up a major part of agricultural labor force, they receive lower incomes and experience greater food insecurity than men because they have less access to productive assets (like land, seeds and tools), technology, and extension and financial services. To address these barriers, Lutheran World Relief has been working for the past three years with the U.S. government’s Feed the Future initiative to help women and men in Western Honduras to advocate for policy changes that enhance women’s access to credit and respond to their needs in agriculture. The Gender in Agriculture from Policy to Practice (GAPP) project sought to improve nutrition and access to food among these poor farm families through encouraging women to participate in the municipal political process, by raising men’s awareness of gender issues and by encouraging advocacy for policies focused on gender equity. This activity helped to advance Feed the Future’s efforts to create a path out of poverty and hunger for millions, particularly smallholder farmers, many of whom are women. The achievements of this initiative are highlighted in a new video that shows what is possible when women and men work together for gender equity. The methodology of the GAPP project has been detailed in an online toolkit that includes details of program activities and lessons learned from the experience of carrying them out. The GAPP project was designed to address the specific context in Honduras, which is one of the poorest countries in the Western Hemisphere, with 66 percent of its population lacking adequate access to food. In western Honduras, 40 percent of farming households are headed by women, of whom 68 percent are poor. Women’s leadership in the agricultural sector remains limited by disparities in income and wages, as well as limitations in political empowerment. Through the GAPP project, women in nine municipalities in western Honduras received training in leadership, public speaking and investment skills. This empowered them to participate in the local political process and engage entrepreneurially by obtaining public funding and accessing loans from rural credit banks for women-led agricultural enterprises. The women participating in GAPP successfully advocated that a portion of the 5% of municipal budgets that is designated by law for gender activities be used specifically to build women-led agricultural enterprises. Maritza Bruno, one of the project participants, said she appreciated the practical training in how to make policy presentations before the local municipal councils. “We have already presented our first public policy, which was approved. And what we hope is that it now only stays on paper, but is put into action,” she said. GAPP also worked with men in the communities, providing training that aimed to raise men’s awareness about gender rights and about existing gender inequalities, and include them in the actions needed to decrease these inequalities and to support their partners. “Being a […]

A Field Guide To Identifying A White Nationalist

A Nazi banner on a building in Nice, France, in 2015 raised alarm until a statement was released explaining it was for a movie set. WASHINGTON ― White nationalists tried repeatedly throughout the presidential campaign to sanitize their language to appeal to mainstream voters as they threw their efforts behind electing Donald Trump. White nationalists who tried to play down their white nationalism won a victory this week as the president-elect not only chose Breitbart News executive Steve Bannon as his chief strategist ― a man who heads a website that regularly airs white nationalist viewpoints ― but many news outlets also are reluctant to use the specific label “white nationalist,” instead calling Bannon a “flame-throwing outsider” and a “nationalist media mogul.” Of course, calling a person a “white nationalist” who hasn’t self-identified as one is somewhat fraught. In Bannon’s case, the website he runs peddles racist and misogynist conspiracy theories and is a go-to resource for white nationalists, according to the Southern Poverty Law Center, which monitors hate groups. Whether or not Bannon personally holds white nationalist views, it’s indisputable that his website has perpetuated them. As David Pilgrim, founder and curator of the Jim Crow Museum at Ferris State University in Michigan, said, it’s useful to look at an individual’s statements, associations and sentiments. “It becomes one of those ‘if it walks like a duck, looks like a duck and quacks like a duck’ kind of things,” he said. The Trump campaign denies allegations that Bannon is a white nationalist or a part of the so-called alt-right, the movement’s latest preferred moniker. “Nothing could be further from the truth, and it’s irresponsible for anyone to even make such a baseless accusation,” said Jason Miller, communications director for Trump’s transition team, in a statement provided to The Huffington Post. Bannon in July told Mother Jones: “We’re the platform for the alt-right” and that the site espoused a “nationalist” philosophy but argued that its attraction for racists was incidental. It’s helpful first to parse the various terms that have been thrown around. “White supremacy” refers to a “full-fledged ideology” that asserts whites should have dominance over people of other races, according to the Anti-Defamation League. “White separatists” promote physical separation of races. A “white nationalist” emphasizes that countries or regions should be defined by a white racial identity. Other ideologies under the nationalist umbrella ― Neo-Nazi groups, for example ― openly praise Adolf Hitler. The founder of Aryan Nations, Richard Butler, wanted an all-white homeland in the Pacific Northwest. But delving into the specifics of each of these subgroups can sometimes miss the point. “Very often it’s useful to call people what they are: racists or white supremacists,” said Mark Potok, senior fellow at the Southern Poverty Law Center. Complicating these distinctions even further, white nationalist groups often use euphemisms to make their ideas appear less repugnant. Jared Taylor, publisher of American Renaissance, a website that regularly features racist screeds, says that he is not a white supremacist, a Nazi […]

Dermat-recommended ways to keep your boob area clean and fresh

Breast area is one of the most unhygienic areas in our body if not kept well. If you’re a woman you know very well what your boobs have to go through whole day. Tight bras, under boob sweat, sweat between your breasts and itching are all common and almost inevitable but do you know how much harm does it cause to you? If not cleaned well the area might end up becoming a perfect breeding ground for germs, which may cause skin irritation, marks and breakouts. We spoke to an expert dermatologist Dr Aparna Sanathanam, who explained to us ways to keep your boob area fresh and clean: Regular bath and keeping the area moisture-free: This might seem trivial but it is important. Not taking a proper and regular bath is a no-no. And when you’re taking bath pay special attention to the area under and in between the boobs as these places tend to perspire and thus cleaning them regularly is a must. Also, make sure the area is dry as moisture tends to attract germs too. Use cotton bras: With the advent of a whole new generation of bras, there are a lot of options in the stores. When it comes to cleanliness and well being of your breast area, choose cotton bras over other fabric bras. Cotton tends to absorb maximum sweat keeping your fresh all day long. Wear well fitting bras: This is a point that is always disregarded by most women. Wearing well- fitting bras is as important as wearing bras. Ill-fitting bras will lead to skin irritation. In fact, according to the dermatologist, you should have two sets of bras of two different sizes . One set to be used before your periods and the other after that. It is because the size of your breasts tends to change before you are about to get your periods. Don’t sleep with your bra on and keep changing it time to time: One should avoid sleeping with their bras. Not only does it affects the shape of your breasts, wearing the same bra for so long will lead to more germs. Keep changing your bras from time to time especially if you are someone who works out/travels extensively. Use anti-fungal dusting powder: This powder will keep germs away. If you have a day full of activities and no time to change your bra you should definitely apply. Try these and let us know your feedback. Image:Shutterstock

Malaysia’s Bersih 5 rally: protesters weigh the cost of action under a repressive regime

Participants in the 2015 rally organised by the Coalition for Clean and Fair Elections in Malaysia. Olivia Harris/Reuters In Malaysia, democracy is a contested term in a political system marked by authoritarianism and rigged elections. But this hasn’t stop civil society from continuing to voice their demands. A wave of mass protests organised by the Coalition for Clean and Fair Elections (Bersih) is calling attention to electoral politics both within Malaysia and internationally. An electoral reform movement that started out in 2005, initially known as the Joint Action Committee for Electoral Reform (JACER), Bersih is the most sustained protest movement in the nation’s history. Tensions are now building as the fifth rally organised by group is expected to take place on November 19. This time around, there’s a significant counter-movement, known as Red Shirts, added into the mix. It’s led by Jamal Yunos, a politician who is the division chief of the Sungai Besar United Malays National Organization (UMNO). UMNO is the largest political party in the ruling coalition, Barisan Nasional, governing alongside the Malaysian Chinese Association and Malaysian Indian Congress. Jamal has been quoted in news media as saying that his actions don’t represent the UMNO, and some party members have resisted being associated with him. The Bersih movement and Red Shirts are both considered “illegal“ by the government, as announced by the Malaysian Deputy Home Minister Ahmad Zahid Hamidi. Jamal has been quoted in a local English-language newspaper, The Star, as saying: I want to warn Bersih. Prepare yourself if you want to go against the decision of police and authorities. We too will go to the ground illegally just to oppose them… We are physically and mentally ready, and we are ready to face the consequences of our actions. In the meantime, the issue of foreign funding for Bersih and some other NGOs, including the local alternative online news portal Malaysiakini, is again being raised by the government. Police stand guard behind barricades in central Kuala Lumpur during the 2011 Bersih rally. Samsul Said/Reuters Among the accusations levelled at the movement is the charge that groups are receiving foreign funds to try to topple the government. This accusation is not new. In 2011, police investigations attempted to link Bersih with foreigners promoting pro-communist ideology, as reported by Utusan Malaysia. In 2012, the mainstream English-language newspaper, News Straits Times, featured a special report alleging that NGOs including Bersih were trying to destabilise the government. The newspaper later apologised following the settlement of a defamation suit brought by the group. In the apology, the paper admitted it had no proof to substantiate the claims. Bersih has so far organised four rallies – in 2007, 2011, 2012 and 2015 – and each resulted in a different outcome. During the first rally on November 10 2007, organisers were subjected to various forms of police intimidation. They faced roadblocks and water canons. And the legality of the movement was questioned by the Home Affairs Ministry, as it was not registered with the […]

Pain, populism and democracy – inside Mexico City’s crowdsourced constitution

Mexico City made headlines around the world earlier this year when the mayor announced that it would crowdsource its new constitution. Any member of the public could post an idea on change.org and those that received a minimum number of votes would be presented to the group of 21 scholars, public servants, activists and artists chosen to draft the text. Hundreds of proposals were submitted and hundreds of thousands of votes were cast. The expert group has now presented its first draft, igniting a firestorm of outrage, accusation and counter-accusation that threatens to engulf the whole project. Yet supporters argue that it is essential for tackling the city’s grievous problems, and part of a long process towards making its democratic institutions more representative of the people they are there to serve. The city, which has some nine million inhabitants, only got the right to elect its mayor in 1997, before which the mayors were appointees, and only since then has it also gained the ability to elect authorities to its 16 boroughs. One of the people to submit a successful proposal, Francisco Fontano Patán, a 29-year-old travel journalist, told Apolitical, ‘At the beginning I didn’t really have much faith in this – politics is quite bad in Mexico – but it has exceeded my expectations and changed my view of government. I have seen with my own eyes and worked with them and I have seen them deliver and try very hard to listen to every one of us and to help us.’ Fontano’s proposal was that the city guarantee a minimum amount of green space per resident. It has attracted some 39,000 votes at time of writing, and made Fontano the first person to present his idea to the drafters. He asked for 9.2 square metres of green space per person, the World Health Organisation minimum (and below the 16sqm recommended by the UN). The draft constitution has dropped the figure, but committed the city to increasing the green space available. “This is a crazy idea” The vituperative criticism of the draft has argued that proposals such as Patán’s are wildly unrealistic. Francisco Martín Moreno, a historian, commentator, legal expert and prominent critic of the process, told Apolitical, ‘Guarantee green space? How can they say that? If you fly around Mexico City, you will see that the green spaces are gone. We don’t have any more green spaces. To have those green spaces, they would have to confiscate houses or businesses or industries, but how can they get the money to do that? ‘Some of the provisions are really a nonsense. The constitution says everyone has the right to breathe a healthy atmosphere. OK, but let me tell you how bad the pollution is in Mexico City. So how is that possible? ‘If someone has a right, the government has an obligation. It’s a parallel conception. And it’s impossible for the government to fulfill all the rights they’re proposing. Yes, it’s aspirational, and we’ve been fighting to have a […]

Tips to get rid of eyebrow dandruff

Do you notice white, flaky scales on your eyebrows? It is called seborrheic dermatitis, and it is characterised by yellowish greasy scales on red, irritated skin. Apart from eyebrows, other common locations include the area around your nose and your ears. These treatments recommended by dermatologist Dr Sejal Shah will reduce the fungus and minimise the inflammation. You must also know these side effects of dandruff. Chemical treatment An anti-dandruff shampoo containing selenium sulphide, salicylic acid, zinc pyrithione, ketoconazole or sodium sulfacetamide are some of the simplest treatments for clearing up the condition on your scalp, and you can use it on your eyebrows too. You can just massage the shampoo on your eyebrows, let it soak in for 3-5 minutes and then wash it off with cold water. Many shampoos that you use cause irritation in your eyes. So it is best that you apply the shampoo on your eyebrows while keeping your eyes closed. You can also massage your eyebrows with coconut oil to remove the scales before applying the shampoo. Natural treatment If you want to go natural, you can just use tea tree oil on the affected area. However, be careful that you do not use undiluted tea tree oil onto your skin as it can cause allergic reactions. It is best that you stick to concentrations between 5 to 20 percent. If your product does not list the concentration, you can make on your own. Just add 15 drops of tea tree oil to a tablespoon of coconut oil or aloe vera gel and apply it on the affected area. Both coconut oil and aloe vera gel are soothing and can help minimise inflammation. You should use this treatment once every day. Seborrheic dermatitis is a chronic condition that needs long-term maintenance. It usually flares up during periods of stress and in winters. So if you have tried these treatment options and haven’t noticed any improvements, it is best that you contact your dermatologist. Learn how you can get rid of dandruff in kids. How to Get Away with Murder

Pinterest ABC/Mitch Haaseth “Who’s under the sheet?” has been central question of How to Get Away with Murder since the ABC drama’s season 3 premiere in August. But on Thursday’s winter finale it was finally revealed which character was found dead in Annalise Keating’s (Viola Davis) home. Spoiler alert: How to Get Away with Murder winter finale plot points revealed. “I’m sad I won’t have scenes with these amazing people I’ve come to love and respect over the past three years, but I’m happy the show was willing to do something so drastic,” Alfred Enoch tells PEOPLE of his character, Wes, being revealed under the sheet. Enoch, 27, and the rest of his cast had been told when they started filming the season that one of them would die, but the decision of who it was going to be was actually not made until the writers were working on episode 7. “There was a lot of trepidation,” Enoch says of the work environment. “But I knew losing anyone was going to be really hard. Honestly, I would feel a lot worse if it wasn’t me.” But even though Enoch’s character is dead, fans will still see Wes on the second half of the season – which starts Jan. 19 – as it is revealed what happened during the final hours of his life. For more on what to expect on the second half of season 3, return to PEOPLE.com Friday for an interview with show creator Peter Nowalk “It’s great to still be on set and seeing people and lunch and such, but I’m sad I don’t get to have scenes with these people I love,” he says. Enoch says he’s in a strange position with never knowing when he’ll have a final scene with his costars. “I have no idea whose path Wes is going to cross before his death. But when I find out I won’t have a scene with someone again, that will be sad,” he says. “I will miss them.” But while he still has no idea what’s in store for his character, he does know one thing he’s already done for a final time on the show. “The other day I realized I would never be sitting in a court room watching Viola do her thing,” he says. “Those were really long days, but I’m feeling very nostalgic about them now. I have a feeling there will be a lot more nostalgia to come.” How to Get Away with Murder will return Jan. 19.

Real women share their stories about one-night stands

Strangers, awkwardness, intimacy, ecstasy are a few things that come to our mind when we think about one-night stands. Some women say it is the best sexual encounter they have had while others feel deflated after the act. And there are others who believe that physical and emotional intimacy cannot co-exist. We spoke to a few real women to tell you what their experience of one-night-stands. Friendship wrecker ‘A few years ago, I had a one-night stand with a college friend. I went to his hostel room to complete an assignment, and we simply could not keep our hands off each other, and things just followed. We went off to sleep and got up next morning only to see ourselves lying naked by each other, which turned out to be awkward. I hurriedly got up, wore my clothes and rushed out of his room. I had to see the guy every day in the college and friendship was never the same. It was totally not worth it’, says Adreeja. Tinder hookup ‘I met this guy on Tinder, went on a date, did not have sex but continued to text. One night I was right around the corner from his apartment in Gurgaon, so I gave him a call. We met at a lounge near his house and had a few drinks. We then decided to go to his house to spend some more time together. So there we were at 10 p.m in his balcony, and there he went in for the kiss. Things progressed pretty fast from there and before we knew it we were both naked and he was pulling a condom out of his drawer. We spent the entire night together, and in the morning we stuffed a few parathas from a nearby dhaba. We never saw each other, but it was the best night I spent with anyone till date’, says Chetna. A worthwhile experience ‘I had been chatting with this mutual friend for months, and he had been telling me how amazing he is in bed, and I was in for a real treat. He booked us a hotel room, and we got cosy with each other. To take the night further, we thought it would be a fabulous idea to have shower sex. To cut a long story short, we had sex in every corner of the hotel room, and we had tremendous fun doing that. I am glad I went for the real treat’, says Tracy. These bizarre scientific facts about relationships will shock you. One-night fail ‘I had some five one-night stands, and I realised that it isn’t just women who can get emotionally attached after sex. I met such two clingers over my encounters. The worst was the one who told me the next morning that he was a virgin and then he started crying because it was his first time and he did not want to let go of me. The bottom line is that you need to be clear […]

Which of these three types of business should you start?

Entrepreneurship is sexy right now. The lure of quitting the 9-5 and being in charge of your own destiny is strong. The quote from Tony Gaskins “If you don’t build your dream someone else will” is doing the rounds and we are almost made to feel boring if we aren’t starting our own business. If you’ve been dreaming of becoming an entrepreneur the first question to think about is what kind of business should you start? In order to answer that question the real question to answer for yourself is what kind of lifestyle do you want? So, what kind of life are you hoping the business will give you? Anyone who starts a business is doing it because they want to live a certain way. They may want to create something new, run things in a particular way, be in a certain kind of environment or maybe they want to just want to be able to earn money from anywhere. What is it for you? I find through my experience as a Business Startup Coach that generally people want one of these three options. The three types of businesses people want to start: 1. An innovation-centered business funded startup. 2. A brick and mortar business and often this has been a dream of theirs for some time, a restaurant for example. 3. A location-independent minimal staff business that they can run from anywhere. Let’s look at the pros and cons of each model. Innovation-based Startup This is the most glamorous and has the highest stakes. Shows like Shark Tank perpetuate the idea that this is how businesses are started or helped to grow. Personally this is my least favorite option for almost everyone I speak to through my business for two main reasons. Firstly, when you accept money from a third party it isn’t your money, you have to give it back or, more accurately, earn it back through the business. So while you get money to put into your business, which is flattering and exciting, you are immediately under pressure to make it work and make money for your investors. Secondly, the more stakeholders who have an interest in your business the more people you have to please and essentially the more bosses you have. Which usually is exactly the situation you were trying to avoid in the first place. If you have a business idea that you definitely want to go ahead with and it can’t be started on a shoestring budget then go this route, otherwise consider your other options. Bricks and Mortar Many people grow up thinking they would love to own their own bakery or restaurant or boutique. It’s a personal dream as well as a money making venture. It also feels like a real business – there is a premises, potentially with staff and you get to spend your time running things exactly how you want to. If this is your dream – wonderful! Start looking into how you can make it happen. […]

Hitting the Road with Your Pet This Holiday Season? Read These Travel Tips First

Pinterest Getty It’s always hard to be away from your pet — so that’s why many owners opt to bring their furry friends with them when they travel. But hitting the road with an animal isn’t as easy as buying another plane ticket or making room in the car: As the travel-heavy holiday season approaches, it’s important to have a plan for your pet. If you want to bring your animal on your festive adventures instead of getting a sitter, Dr. Sarah Nold, an on-staff veterinarian for Trupanion, has a few helpful safety tips for you and your furry friend. What is the safest way to fly with your pet? The safest way to fly is to fly prepared for any situation. Make sure your carrier is the proper size for your pet and durable. Call the airline to determine if your carrier/pet is approved for riding in the cabin or if they will have to go in cargo. Keep in mind there may be maximum weight and minimum age requirements for traveling, these are usually enforced for the safety of your pet. If your pet is traveling in cargo, ask the airline what they allow in the carrier with your pet. Most airlines require a USDA health certificate issued by a veterinarian, so ask the airline how many days before travel the certificate must be issued. Make sure your pet is comfortable in the carrier. If your pet has never been in a carrier, your veterinarian can give suggestions to make the transition easier. Getting your pet used to the carrier should ideally be done over a span of weeks and months, so prepare ahead of time. And don’t forget to have your pet microchipped to help with identification. How can you keep your pet calm and comfortable during air travel? If your pet is in the cabin with you, you can put a familiar toy or blanket in the carrier with them. You also have the option of using a sedative/anti-anxiety medication, if approved by your veterinarian. Again, plan on this in advance so you can try a dose of the medication with your pet before travel, so if they don’t respond appropriately, there is time to ask your veterinarian about other options. Your options are more limited if your pet is in cargo, as there is no one there to monitor your pet and sedatives can affect their ability to regulate their body temperature. Whether they are with you in the cabin or in cargo, make sure there is absorbent material such as puppy pads or newspaper in the bottom of the carrier (ideally with spares on hand!). Don’t feed your pet within two hours of departure, as this can upset their stomach. What are common problems people run into with a pet at the airport? What is the easiest ways to avoid them? If you are traveling with your pet in cargo, ideally book a nonstop flight to minimize time on the tarmac. If you are […]

In the Wake of Trump Victory, New York’s Auction Week Perseveres With Solid Results

Edvard Munch, Pikene på broen (Girls on the Bridge), 1902, oil on canvas, 39 3/4 x 40 3/8 in. (101 x 102.5 cm). Estimate: on request, in excess of $50 million. Price Realized: $54,487,500 million. While there was much speculation about the effect that the United States’ upset presidential contest might have on the art market, this week’s New York sales proved that the auction market remains as impervious to politics as it does to criticism. The Picassos, the Warhols, and the Richters were bought and sold, like any other day, regardless of who is advancing to the White House and who is marching in the street. And while the market is certainly experiencing a contraction from the spectacle of just a few years prior, overall the sales were solid and steady, though a touch subdued. László Moholy-Nagy, EM 1 Telephonbild, conceived in 1922, executed in 1923, porcelain enamel on steel, 37 1/2 x 23 3/4 in. (95.2 x 60.3 cm). Estimate: $3,000,000 – 4,000,000. Price Realized: $6,087,500. Courtesy of Sotheby’s. At least one glass ceiling was ruptured: Sotheby’s Impressionist & Modern Art Evening Sale started off the week on Monday, November 14, with auctioneer Helena Newman -the first female auctioneer to lead a major evening sale in New York – commanding the room. The star lot of the sale, Edvard Munch’s Girls on a Bridge (1902), started at $43 million and quickly rose until stalling at $50 million for what felt like an excruciating length of time. Imploring looks and queries were cast across the room, until Newman finally gave in, settling for the hammer price of $50 million ($54.5 million all told). It’s the third time the painting has been sold at Sotheby’s, and it set records each time it was auctioned previously. This week’s result would have made it a three-for-three record-setter, were it not for The Scream, which set the all time record for the artist at $119.9 million in 2012. Recently on view at the Guggenheim retrospective of László Moholy-Nagy, EM 1 Telephonbild (1922-23), billed as an early conceptual work of art, was another highlight of the evening, selling for a record-setting $6 million. Not all were winners, however; a highly anticipated Tamara de Lempicka portrait of a male subject, from the collection of fashion illustrator Kenneth Paul Block and textile designer Morton Ribyat, failed to sell. Overall, the auction was a success, however, with the evening sale total coming in at $157.7 million, with $38.8 million resulting from the Tuesday’s Impressionist & Modern Art Day Sale, bringing Sotheby’s total to $196.5 million – a reassuring result given the charged political climate. Willem de Kooning, Untitled XXV, 1977, oil on canvas, 77 x 88 in. (195.7 x 223.5 cm). Estimate in the region of $40 million. Price Realized: $66,327,500. Courtesy of Christie’s. Jean Dubuffet, Les Grandes Artères, 1961, oil on canvas, 44 3/4 x 57 1/2 in. (113.7 x 146 cm). Estimate: $ 15,000,000 – 20,000,000. Price Realized: $ 23,767,500. Courtesy of Christie’s. Christie’s started […]
