In her final interview as first lady, Michelle Obama told Oprah Winfrey about her hopes for the country as she prepares to step away from the White House and become a private citizen. During the sit-down, titled “First Lady Michelle Obama Says Farewell to the White House — An Oprah Winfrey Special,” it was evident how important hope was and continues to be for the first couple. “Hope is necessary. It’s a necessary concept and Barack didn’t just talk about hope because he thought it was just a nice slogan to get votes,” Obama said. “He and I and so many believe that — what else do you have if you don’t have hope? What do you give your kids if you can’t give them hope?” The first lady also said that her husband has provided a source of calm and comfort for Americans during his eight years in office. “I feel Barack has been that for the nation in ways that people will come to appreciate. After spending eight years at 1600 Pennsylvania Ave., she admitted that adding another eight years would take a toll on her family, specifically for daughters Malia, 18, and Sasha, 15. “I wouldn’t do that to my kids. What people don’t understand, you run, they stop,” the mother of two said. “The next family that comes in here, their lives will be turned upside down in a way that no American really understands.” Speaking of the next administration, Obama recalled her White House meeting with her successor, Melania Trump. “It was pleasant, a wonderful visit, we talked about the kids but my offer to Melania was the door is open,” she said about her advice to the soon-to-be first lady. “I’m modeling what was done for me, Laura Bush was nothing but gracious and helpful, we will do whatever they […]
