Surviving a divorce or break-up is definitely traumatic, and can leave you with bad memories enough to put you off relationships for a while. However, impossible as it may seem, you will definitely want to get back to meeting people and dating. But it will not the same as dating when you were younger and had no child. Dating as a single dad needs a more mature and responsible approach as whatever you do directly affects your child. So how do you wade through these new waters? Well, mostly by instinct, but there are a few things that can help you. Be honest: While you might have notions that women won’t be open to dating single fathers, you will actually be killing your chances by not being honest with whoever you go out with. You need to be honest about your life, your situation and what you are looking for. Manage your time: You know that your child needs your time, and probably was your top proiority. But with a new relationship, you will need to manage your time and devote quality time to both, your girlfriend and your kids. Look for a date, not a mother for your children: Few women will be willing to enter into a romantic relationship just to become a mother to your children. Do not let the fact that you have children weigh heavy on your realtionship from the word go. Give the realtionship time to grow and bloom organically. Make sure you are emotionally stable: A broken relationship will definitely take a toll on you. And you will require a lot of time and soul-soothing to get over it. However, a rebound relationship will not help. Before you get on the dating scene, make sure you are emotionally in a better and secure place. Don’t trash your ex: Surely you have bitter feelings towards your ex, but bickering and constant hatred will only sow negative thoughts in your mind.
