Can I get HIV from fingering?

Even though there are many theoretical risks of fingering, such as a wide variety of infections or STDs; as such there is no risk of HIV in fingering. Fingering basically means stimulating the vagina with a finger or two and is not a very likely route for HIV transmission. Risks of HIV, however, can be posed if vaginal fluids and menstrual blood carries HIV inside the body through blood stream or if one has cuts over the finger and if there are lesion in the partner’s genital like sores or bleeding. Whether a sexual activity is safe or not totally depends upon the chances of your partner’s body fluids coming in direct contact with your mucous membranes and blood. However, it pays to be cautious and check for any cuts over the finger of your partner. One can also reduce the chance of infection by making sure that your partner doesn’t have any cuts or sores in hands and that the HIV-infected partner is not having any cuts or sores in the rectum or vagina area. Also, wearing a medical-grade glove while fingering would further reduce the negligible risk of HIV and reduce the risk of other STD’s, which can spread by fingering. You can also use a variety of clean and hygienic sex toys instead of fingering. Also, do wash them carefully after every use. There is no risk of HIV transmission in casual or dry kissing, non-sensual massage, phone sex, masturbation without involving your partner’s body fluids and body-to-body humping. Do use a good amount of water-based lubricant in order to keep friction and tearing of the tissue at bay. Always make it a point to go slowly and initially do start small. In the end, one must understand that the H in HIV stands for Human, and no virus can survive outside the body. In fact, the virus dies as soon as it gets exposed to air or oxygen.
